G.A.M.E.R

Many people see gamers as those that would pretty much waste their times holding a plastic/electronic device in their hands and press buttons continuously to control a virtual character locked within the embodiment of the television screen. Half of that is true, the other half… not so true. While gamers do control virtual characters in a separate world, and use a plastic/electronic device to do said deed, it’s not completely a time waster. I’ll explain why it’s not completely a time waster in a bit… but now, allow me to grace you with the wonders of gamers.

Great strength is one of those things a gamer possesses. Now, I’m not talking about Hulk Hogan/Brock Lesnar type strength, I’m talking about the strength that gets you past hurdles, makes you climb through holes and come out safe, search for something despite how futile it might be (no, this isn’t a bf/gf part). You might pass by a gamer controlling a character and running through a field and you might say,”Pfft, now your character’s staying healthy by jogging?”. While that may be substantially true, you don’t know what got the character there, what the gamer’s gone through to bring the character there; and what the gamer still has to go through to get to where the ‘jogging’ character needs to be. Why not sit down and look? You might be amazed by the strength to control someone that can’t run fast at least.

Ever seen 2 people playing a co-op war game, and suddenly an enemy shoots at one of them then the other snipes the enemy in the head? Can’t be done without Amazing sight. Still doubt me? Let’s get talking. I bet you’ve watched war movies, or movies/series with Agencies in them(e.g 24!) and I’m pretty sure you’ve seen someone killed by a sniper. That’s no ordinary feat, especially as the unlucky target might be metres or kilometres away. Now imagine that same feat simulated in a video game. Still think it’s easy? Look at games where you have to snipe people hiding in dry grass wearing camo (Modern Warfare 2 comes to my mind here), the snipers don’t move unless they’re preparing to shoot you, after the shot they blend back in. Don’t think for a minute that you could just use your scope and get the sniper when he moves, it’s not easy… why? The scope magnifies only a small portion of sight; plus moving your aim is slower (so the sniper could have dished you 2 shots already, resulting in great arm or inevitable death). Enough talk here, you get the picture already… so you should also understand now that for gamers to see the said sniper and gun him down is something that is really impressive. Did I mention the distance between you and the sniper is simulated properly also? Yeah…

Being strong and having good eye sight is one thing, but another impressive thing gamers possess is Mental determination. That is one attribute that many non-gamers wished they had right? Maybe you’re wishing for it now. You’ve probably seen a gamer sit in a position, sighing, grunting, cursing with lines of ‘I almost had it!’ or ‘Damn… was so close’ and think they’re either dying and dying again, or trying to get a particular item on a high plane and falling down (most likely you’re thinking the first one). You’re most likely correct, if not completely, but your first correct option isn’t the point here. The point here is that you keep hearing the same lines over and over from the gamer’s mouth. Why? Because he/she keeps trying the same thing over and over until he/she gets it. And get it the gamer will. Heck, it might be minutes,no hours before it’s done, but it will be done. Even if such determination is channeled towards a virtual world, it’s not long until you see such being channeled into real world circumstances.

You don’t get far in some games if you don’t have Effective reflexes. Fortunately, gamers do. Seriously? You’re still trying to argue that they don’t? After reading the awesome things they do have? Alright, I won’t bring witnesses, just plain facts. You may (or may not) have seen some adventure games in which the character goes through silent, dark and pretty narrow forests (you can think of Ocarina of Time or Majora’s Mask here); when suddenly an enemy pops out and hurls an attack at the character. On normal grounds, it’s a sure-banker the attack would hit, but watch a gamer go through that aisle and you’ll be surprised to see a quick lock-on-evade-block-ready weapon in no time. Sharp reflexes, not necessarily always being on the alert, because even with that you might lunge forward instead of moving back to plan proper tactics.

With all these in the bag, it’s little wonder that gamers also have Radical personalities. What? You think every single gamer is a sociopath who’s afraid of talking to girls, decides to stalk the pretty ones and jacks off to issues of Playboy magazines (males) or someone who has low self esteem, thinks she’s too fat then sleeps with anyone who would take advantage of her and calms herself down with gaming? HELL NO. There are awesome gamers, unique people who actually do so much for the world. They’re also intelligent, friendly and pretty hospitable. Basically like everyday people but with specific attributes that lift them out of the strata of everyday people. Did I also mention that they can be really sexy too? Nah, sorry no pics on that one. I’d be going as against their privacy. I might ask nicely for them though…

Take a moment to absorb, digest and process the wonders of gamers, then change your mindset (for those who need to) on how you see gamers on a normal basis. They pack a heavy punch. And now to reveal something mind-blowing to you… I TOO AM A GAMER!!! MUAHAHa…eh what? You already knew??? Great, way to spoil my fun, killjoys…
