4 weeks later and I’m still grinding thoughts

If I’m reading my cards right, it’s been literally 4 weeks since I last had something published on Dancing Silhouettes. I guess I could blame this phenomenon on the ragged events that have been dotting my days for the past weeks that have gone by this month and last included. Most of them haven’t been very heart-warming, especially if I should bring the spotlight on how school’s been for me. In all honesty it’s been frustrating; very, very frustrating. I’m not exactly one to spill details on things so easily, so you may excuse my reluctance to open up the floodgates so easily. We all have our problems, so I shouldn’t be the one to complicate things and make you feel like I’m adding a burden to what you already have.

Some of those I’m pretty close with and talk to regularly (Detanfy and Proteus take tops on that list) know what’s been going on, or know at least a bit of what’s been going on. Just to clarify, I’m not in a depressed state or in a pit of sadness just wallowing out in grief and looking for that one little crack in the darkness that will shed light on my situation, no. It’s something more constructive and less dramatic than that.
To start off, let me say that I’ve picked up on a few of the hobbies that I had left behind, though it’s in a way making me neglect those that I originally went for subconsciously. For example, I’ve gone back to writing (rough work stuff, stories, songs, that sorta thing). I’ve also gone back to drawing, though I haven’t been doing that one on a full scale, but still it’s there. This coming week I could be involved in some event planning scenarios that would have me in tech operations (being a geek has some advantages I suppose). I decided to sit down and get myself to just watch stuff that I love, for example Robot Chicken, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls (definitely) and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (if you haven’t tried that one you’re missing on something pretty cool); I’m managing to get up-to-date with some of them, which is a really good thing for me. I’ve begun reading again, and in a fiercer manner. I managed to finish 3 books in one month, and I’ve increased my total read this year to 11 (my target is 50 by the way). I know it’s not much, but considering how I was earlier this year, I say it’s a good enough step for me to keep going with and improving on. Continue Reading →

Relax And Laugh

Baam! Kabloom! She-pow! Woohaa! Oh yeah! It’s another of those days we get to goof off in front of our computers because it’s just what we do and Dancil called it up after we let our flows die out for a while! It’s Saturday! And I woke up at about 2 PM because I slept off at about 6:30 AM… all because I was trying to fix some things. The last 24 hours have been frustration filled in several accounts, and because of how selfish I am I’ve decided to calm myself down and look at some funny webcomics and just laugh my buttocks off. Because I can.
But…! You’re in luck!, as you all will benefit from this selfless act of selfishness of mine. I’m not making any sense? Huzzah. Don’t shoot the messenger because he/she may have sex with your spouse, then you have a reason to do away with both of them and hide their bodies as trophies in your personal collection. Wait… no one does that? I eh… I… let’s move on okay?

Mother Father Gentleman!

The legendary South Korean pop singer who knocked us all up with Gangnam Style has hit us up with something else entirely. You’d think that after something like Gangnam Style, everyone would tell Psy to shift aside. Quite frankly, that’s not the case, because while Gangnam Style did hit a billion views plus on YouTube (that’s a record, ladies and gents), his new song has gone past 100 million views. And this song and its video has only been out for less than a month (hell, the 12th of April to be exact). The song has already finished dishing out more record breaking feats, despite the offhanded tongue-in-cheek character it portrays. But no one’s concerned about the seriousness of the issues surrounding us, no. If Gangnam Style is any proof, what we’re concerned about is the next thing that can make us forget just how bad things have become in the days past (our hearts go to those in the Boston marathon bombings).

Game Journal: Alice: Madness Returns

Games are ethereal as they are physical, and they project a playing field for the chassis of the designer’s imagination. They are a form of art, irrespective of the theme the paintings are based on, and third-person games are a very good way of showcasing imagination; that’s why we have this title today. Developed by Spicy Horse, the studio founded by the brains behind American McGee’s Alice, and published by Electronic Arts; this game is based on insanity and horror that twist into one another, figuratively and literally. There’s hardly a moment of normalcy all through the hours of the game, and the little respite from the insanity only has your character digging through her memories to uncover the truth behind the cause of her insanity in the place. Digging through insanity isn’t always pretty so, are you strapped in?

Good...

Good…

Let’s muse lightly over the basics

This is a game journal post, and so shouldn’t be treated like an official review for the game. It’s partly like a review, but without the cynic trappings of formality. Also, there may be minor spoilers in this, but nothing too great as to reveal major plot details.

Facts You Should Know

Name of the game is Alice: Madness Returns

Available on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows (this version was played)

Released in North America on the 14th of June, 2011 and in Europe on the 16th of June, 2011

Developed by Spicy Horse, Published by Electronic Arts

Play time is within the range of 12-18 hours depending on how much you explore, the hidden items you look for (pig snouts, hidden memories, tiny doorways, etc.) and how fast you advance through chapters

Played this on an Asus X54C Laptop; specs include – 6GB RAM, Intel Pentium B960 CPU running at 2.2 GHz and an Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics processor.

Let’s dive back into the insanity of the moment then shall we?

The wonders of asdfmovie

mine_turtle__by_derpsonmuffinpants-d5t1f17

The interwebz have ruled time and time again, splashing us with little tiny nuggets of chewy fun while waiting for us to take the plunge into its deep recesses. Some time back I gave a little speech on one of the many, many wonders I had come across while scouting the Internet, and that was one was about asdfmovie. If you recall, asdfmovie (pronounced ass-duff-moo-vee) is a range of random cartoon videos created by TomSka. That’s me plagiarizing myself.
In the last post, the original asdfmovie was embedded for viewer entertainment. Now, I want to raise the ante up a bit.
asdfmovie right now currently has 6 different parts/iterations/sessions/whatever-you-ma-call-them. But before we dive into the 6, let’s have a little fun with Mine Turtle (you’ll get to know him more after this music video)

Game Journal: Limbo

Side scrolling games have the habit of exhibiting a few traits; some of these traits could be; lots of colours, a few colours, lots of platforming (crude definition meaning to jump over and over to escape death). Then there are funny characters, annoying enemies and repetitive music in some cases. It’s somewhat funny that the previous journal was on another side scrolling game. However, unlike Mark of The Ninja, Limbo offers a side scrolling game that is completely different in its approach towards the 2D section. Limbo is studio Playdead’s creation, and it’s one that is definitely unique in every approach it takes… a little too unique on some fronts. But, before we bite into the gritty bits, let’s cover a few basics about this game.

This is a game journal post, and so shouldn’t be treated like an official review for the game. It’s partly like a review, but without the cynic trappings of formality. Also, there may be minor spoilers in this, but nothing too great as to reveal major plot details.

Facts You Should Know

Available on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Microsoft Windows (version played), Mac OS X, PS Vita, Cloud (OnLive)

Developed by Playdead, Published by Microsoft Game Studios and Playdead

Played this on an Asus X54C Laptop; specs include – 6GB RAM, Intel Pentium B960 CPU running at 2.2 GHz and an Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics processor.

Now that’s out of the way, we can move onward into oblivion.

Beyonce Memes [Picture]

For anyone who paid attention to our recently published Funnies (which I felt obliged to drop considering everyone was merry midnight time), you’ll notice there’s a Beyonce picture among the memes present. In case you missed the post, check it out and spot Beyonce. Seen her? Cool, because now I plan on embedding you all with a lot (LOT) of pictures like that. Not necessarily memes, so forgive the title.
Regardless, in the spirit of all things pie-rated overkill, let’s get this show started.

Sunday Funnies

g1361175563639917263

I told myself I’d never use Sunday Funnies as a headline for any post I write. I also told myself I wouldn’t bookmark drawings of animals kicking human butt, and yet I did. In the spirit of things we told ourselves we won’t and ended up doing anyway, as well as the spirit that wants us to look around for eggs laid around by a rabbit, I give you some of the random funnies I managed to come across on the Internet. This list isn’t meant to be exhaustive, but in the spirit of bookmarking the wrong things, it is.
So… live with it okay?

Game Journal: Mark of the Ninja

2013-01-03_00004

There’s a certain appeal that can be gained from 2-D side scrolling games; especially if those games give you a very entertaining experience. Several side scrolling games do this, maybe lots even. Then there are several that do more than give you something really entertaining, and then some that take the apex and blast through to give you something even better than the norm. Klei Entertainment is pretty good with being in the last group. For those that are inconclusive as to what the Klei team is all about, they are the ones responsible for Shank and Shank 2. And without stopping there, they brought out Mark of the Ninja; a game based on the conflict that arises between ancient culture and modern technology. It’s stealth heaven and skill paradise, but before an in-depth look into the game, we cover a few basics first.

This is a game journal post, and so shouldn’t be treated like an official review for the game. It’s partly like a review, but without the cynic trappings of formality. Also, there may be minor spoilers in this, but nothing too great as to reveal major plot details.

Facts You Should Know

Name of the game is Mark of the Ninja

The Art Of Konjification

g1360479718969406276

Hey folks! This post is in the spirit of the day. It wasn’t intended initially for the 14th, but considering the circumstances it blends pretty well with it all. Happy Reading!

Konji.

A force to behold in it’s entirety. The one condition that hits boys and girls, chiselled guys and curvy babes, wowo negroes and dishevelled ladies equally without even bothering about the consequences it will bestow on the individual it is affecting. In conditions that don’t look at your face before hitting, konji is ranked top among the hard ones like HIV/AIDS and poverty; hitting every living being that could ever dream of learning how to operate a condom without mistakenly taking it for a very oily balloon.
Several have tried defying the odds when konji hits hard, and only very few have actually escaped its clutches without any form of drastic measure taken. Many, many souls have lost, and continue to lose the very unfair battle against the sovereign force that is konji. People have tried to prob its origins, trying to decipher exactly what makes konji. Few conclusions have been reached… many hypotheses have been made. Teenagers and young adults alike have formed talk groups trying to conquer it at certain instances, some of them knowing that said groups are just what konji needs to succeed in its plans.
